'Warrior Within' Men's Meditation Series

"Meditation is a practice that is useful for men from all walks of life. Centuries ago, warrior classes across many different cultures used meditation to instil a clear mind and a courageous heart. The Samurai are perhaps the most famous, meditating upon death on a daily basis so they could fight without fear." 

David is hosting a second series of meditation classes for men - "The Warrior Within" - at Madam Heap School of Mindful Living in Middle Park. The classes run from 7pm-8pm every Wednesday from April 26 until May 31, 2017. 

As well as discussions around the nature of masculinity, the classes include guided warrior meditations on energy, connection, purpose, acceptance and more.

The underlying concepts of "The Warrior Within" series have been covered by the Meditation Association of Australia, The Good Men Project and The Mighty.

'Heartfulness' Meditation Series

Science has shown us that the heart has the most powerful energy field in our body, but where would you point if you were asked to name the place where your consciousness is located and decisions are made? Your head, right? Our indigenous ancestors would respond by touching their hearts. They understood the heart’s innate wisdom and its ability to perceive and decipher the world around them. They acknowledged the limitations of relying solely on the mind.

In this four-week course, which uses proven techniques known as HeartMath, we will practice heart-based meditations that realign our hearts and minds, helping us to rejuvenate and rebalance. This not only provides effective stress management but can also improve mental functions such as perception, intuition and creativity. Research has also shown that regular practice offers significant health benefits by improving immune function and much more.

This series is suitable for everyone; no previous experience is necessary. For more experienced meditators, these techniques will help take the benefits of your mindfulness skills to the next level. Spaces are limited.

Join David at Madam Heap School of Mindful Living in Middle Park and learn how to truly live in love and gratitude. Classes run from 7.30pm-8.30pm every Thursday from May 25 until June 15, 2017, at a cost of $140 for the series.

MPN Meditation Group

David is hosting a free-of-charge weekly meditation for people with Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPN), a rare blood cancer which often comes with a slew of difficult-to-manage daily symptoms. The group is also open to carers and close friends.

The sessions will be held at Victoria Avenue Wellbeing in Albert Park each Tuesday at 7pm for one hour, as well as live at the ANZ MPN Community Facebook page for those who cannot attend in person or reside outside of Melbourne.

Beginning with a general discussion, the meditation includes a body scan with a deep dive down to the DNA, focusing on mindfulness, heart energy and inner healing.

Research has shown that meditation reduces stress and anxiety by speeding up cortisol recovery as well as lowering inflammation by down-regulating associated genes; thus allowing the body to more readily do what it is naturally designed to do. Heal and thrive. Combined with the many other benefits, regular meditation practice can be very helpful when challenged with a chronic condition such as an MPN.
